How to successfully complete your Career Plan for Milestone 2

Earn a rating of competent or higher in each of the three questions on the Career Plan to successfully complete Milestone 2

We recommend using this rubric as a guide to create a successful Career Plan. It will help you stay focused on the most critical aspects of your plan and ensure that you meet all the necessary criteria.

While working on your plan, please take the time to review your work carefully and make any corrections required to ensure that your plan is well-written and free of errors. Make sure to refer to the rubric to ensure that you are on the right track. It's important to note that Scholars must earn a rating of competent or higher to move on to Milestone 3.

Reminder: You must complete VTOP Module 1: Career and Self-Development before submitting your Career Plan, and both must be complete within 30 days of your application being approved.

Here's how your Career Plan will be evaluated:


1. Providing your career objectives for the next 5 to 10 years using the SMART goal framework

Distinguished ✔️

Scholar uses all elements of SMART criteria to establish one or more career goals focused on post-credential attainment within 5-10 years.

Proficient ✔️

Scholar uses all elements of SMART criteria to establish one  career goal focused on post-credential attainment within 5-10 years.

Competent ✔️

Scholar uses 4 or less SMART criteria to establish career goal(s) focused on post-credential attainment within 5-10 years.

Unsatisfactory  ❌

Scholar does not establish a SMART goal specific to their chosen career path. The goal is not focused on post-credential attainment.

OR 

Scholar uses 2 or less elements of SMART criteria to establish career goal(s) focused on post-credential attainment within 5-10 years.

2. Providing three instances where you have utilized the Career and Self-Development competency to achieve professional growth

Distinguished ✔️

The scholar describes three unalike situations where Career and Self-Development competency behaviors were used to achieve professional growth through three different observable behaviors.

Proficient ✔️

The scholar describes three similar situations where Career and Self-Development competency behaviors were used to achieve professional growth through three  observable behaviors. 

Competent ✔️

The scholar describes three situations where Career and Self-Development competency behaviors were used to achieve professional growth through two observable behaviors.

Unsatisfactory ❌

The scholar does not describe three situations where Career and Self-Development competency behaviors were used to achieve professional growth through any of the observable behaviors.

3. Choosing at least three distinct tasks or projects that will help you enhance your Career and Self-Development competency

 

Caution: It is necessary to select three tasks to earn full credit for question 3. Selecting anything less will result in an unsatisfactory score.

Distinguished ✔️

The Scholar selects at least three specific tasks or projects that will enable them to further develop the Career and Self-Development competency. Selecting more than 3 is permitted.

Unsatisfactory ❌

The Scholar selects less than three specific tasks or projects that will enable them to further develop the Career and Self-Development competency.
